August 2007

The other bit of Tanzania.

Today has been a good day: I received some packages from Europe, so LOTS of goodies.

Tanzania I have taken pictures of the remaining of my chipboard book on A2Tanzania. The "A": The background is copper paint with black embossing powder. I used an old side of Benoît showing an impala. I put some white paper so the image can be seen. The letter "A" is a simple sticker.

N2 The "N": I used some platinium paint. a "n" I painted in gold and some strasses. This is for the Tanzanite stone that can only be found in Tanzania. the "lucky" is from a matchbox of this brand. The brand is local and the joke is that you are lucky if you can light one!

I The "i": the background is made of golden paint and green hand-made paper. The Giraffe is a funny scrapbook sticker. The letter is in plastic and has been colored with alcohol inks.

A3 The last "A": background made with leftovers of papers and raphia. I used a tanzanian postal stamp. There is a coke cap and the plastic letter is glued on a game plastic chip.

So today I received a LOT of supplies! I am so impatient to play with those! I will put some pictures tomorrow!!

Random and more goodies!

I am still VERY busy at the office. I still wonder how people can think there is nothing to do during judicial recess. I guess I am getting too old to work 15 hours a day! But work is so interesting.

Still we went to the movie again. This time for Live Free or Die Hard. I had no time to really create anything new or post pictures of the last pieces I have made. It is coming... just give me the time. Actually it is not so exact as I have started a small piece.

Harrison is back to his house! But who is Harrison? it is my friend Rupa's hedgie. He is so funny and so different from my Muffin. The bad thing is that the wonders cannot be together. At best they ignore each other. At worse, they want to bite each other. So they need parental supervision when they are in the same room! I think Muffin just wants to be a spoiled only child! cannot believe on 15 October it will be one year she is with us! Muffin is on my laps (quite confortable) while I am typing. she is so sweet.

Dscn2565I also have some new pix of the goodies I am going to receive soon. cannot help it, I have to share!

Lookie what we have there: a bit of (super) glue, a few items to alter and some embossing to try.

Dscn2566 Some ephemeras now.

I love music sheets. I cannot explain why but I just love this material. All in this picture is from Artchix Studio. This is one of my favorite online stores. I have some plans for the german scrap.

The maps will find some utility for travel oriented pieces. And the black & white pictures are already inspiring me. Oh! and the 2nd pack from right is the free goodies I am getting with my order. Thanks Helga!

Dscn2567Another sneak peak from the same shop. hmmm.... holy cow, that looks good! I am particularly waiting from the shrines!

Ok. I think that will be all for today. I still have a few pictures because I did A LOT of shopping. I am now waiting for all those goodies to come to me!!!

patience!

This title is going to make Benoît laugh like crazy as according to him I am all but patient!

In late July/August I made quite a few orders in the US for art supplies!! (You cannot see it but I have my garfield smile just thinking about it!). Every order was sent to France and then my parents just sent things to Arusha!! I have started to receive a few. I am so excited! So bad I do not have too much time to play with my goodies currently. To keep me waiting while I get the rest of my art supplies, I ask my paretns to send me pictures of what they received and I am looking at those pictures. hee hee

Dscn2562 more distress ink  and embossing powder from Tim Holtz. some mica tiles. Some golden products. some chipboard and other ephemeras.. some new acrylic color paints and crazy plastic.

And the walnut ink! I love this medium

I have so many projects in mind!

Dscn2563 look at those papers and the Michael deMeng stamps. Cannot wait to play with all of this!

In any case, I have finished my little chipboard book about Tanzania. I will post pictures soon about this finished project.

Must go and see how my photo transfert is going. right now it is soaking in the bathroom sink.

A bit of Tanzania

Wow, this week went so fast! There is so much work to do at the office and almost everybody is on holidays! Cannot beleive it is already mid-August!!

My week was not very creative but last week i had time to start a chipboard book. Wondering what project I could do with it and thinking about the fact that maybe I should think about incorporating more of Africa in my art I notice that there were enough chipboard pieces to play with the word T-A-N-Z-A-N-I-A.

So far it is TANZ... but I wanted to post tome pictures:

Tanz

The process is quite interesting. I like working on small surfaces because it lets me experiment new techniques.

This is "T". I glued a brown background paper on the chipboard. I stamped the eastern part of Africa on a beige bazzil paper, cut it to the correct size and glued it on the brown brackground paper. I stamped a small T. I distressed a little bit the stamped paper.

T_2

For the A. I stamped and ambossed an Elephant. I also glued a 100 Tanzanian shilling coin. the letter "a" is lightly embossed and the background paper is distressed with ink.

A1

the "N": i used some raphia fablic that is sold here for the backbround. I cut and glued it. I did a transfert using one of Benoît's photographs of a chimp. The transfert was made using tape. I used some brown cardstock for the letter. i painted the edged and I used stickes for the letter. Finally I tied some brown string around the chipboard.

N1

Letter Z: the background is made of beige paper distressed with ink. There is aslo a piece of handmade paper coming from Asia. I glued part of a telephone card refill and a tax stamp used in airport. the circle around the letter was bought in a local hardware store. I stamped it with alcohol ink. The letter was is red plastic. I also stamped it with alcohol ink...

Z

That is all for now. I still have to finish A-N-I-A. Hopefully this week if it gets quiet.

I went to the movie!!!

Going to the movie is part of the things I would not mention on a blog if I was living in Europe or the US for example. Ok, maybe I would mention it if the film was GREAT! But yes, here in Arusha, I went to a real movie theater that was showing a real movie (not a fake copy where you see shodows of people's head or where the actors speaks 1 second after their lips start moving). So I went to see Next. This is not a great movie but it was entertaining. It was also nice to do something quite normal... like this. Cannot wait for the next movie!

While I am typing, we just experienced a small quake again. It was big enough so the house made some noise and I felt myself mooving while sitting on the chair. It did not wake up Muffin a second!

Yesterday I went shopping. I bought a new carpet for the living room. It is 1 meter by 1.7 meters. I really like the color and it is really soft to my feet!

Newcarpet

I also bought a frame the other day. It has a rusted look. I still do not know if I am going to use it just to put a picture or to be part of an altered art project.

I'd rather be in Phoenix

Right now I 'd rather be in Arizona, in Phoenix. Most people would say I am crazy: Phoenix? in August? Yep! Why? there is Art Unraveled 2007. For a few months I have been visiting the website regularly with envy. The Price of the ticket from Tanzania, plus lodging, plus registration was too much for me this year. But next year I HAVE TO GO.

So If I was attending Art Unraveled this year, this would be my schedule:

Boo.... Next year maybe??? booo or maybe they can come to Arusha? I can help organize... no?

Photography

I found this website called Imagekind the other day! wow. Just what I need!! I have put some of my photographs for sale there. Who knows :-)

My gallery is there: http://karineardault.imagekind.com. and for the eye, a new pix: Mummy zebra and her baby!
