January 2008

already sunday

Yesterday was a nice creative day. I started working on Ben's website and the update should be on this evening. Then the power went out and did not come back before 7.00 p.m. So I had time to make art except for what needed power. I will post some pictures later. well, making art lasted only until 4.30 p.m. as the light was getting so low that is was not good enough for me to see what I was doing, especially when it has something to do with the choice of colors. So then what reading time... with candles...

Ben came back and the power did too some time after. Today we hav power so i will be able to finish the piece I am working on and also work on MY website. Better go get my breakfast and make art, because tomorrow, it is MONDAY....

More inchies

Marchinchiesgreen

Here are my inchies for a March swap with my Hannah Grey fellows.

I used some stamps with clear embossing powder but we cannot see it on the scan. Even in real it is very discret. I love them they were fun to make. For once I made the background all at once and then cut the inchies...

April theme is white/beige... Cannot wait to start!

Reflection over flaming.

i have been thinking a lot lately about people behaviour and especially about flaming.

according to Wikipedia:

"Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. Occasionally, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they can be called "trolls". Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject. Some equate flaming with simply letting off steam, though the receiving party may be less than pleased. Similarly, a normal, non-flame message may have elements of a flame -- it may be hostile, for example -- but it is not a flame if its author seriously intends to advance the discussion. The word flaming is also sometimes used for long, intensive and heated discussions, even though insults do not occur."

With the internet, we are back to written communication versus oral communication. We must be careful with how we present our ideas, feelings and opinions. It is not easy. Writign is not easy. passing a message that will be understood by others the way we intended it is not easy. On the other hand flaming without willing to do so is something that can easily be done.

So on the internet like in real life, there is just one word: R E S P E C T. It is not beacause you do not like a person that you should not respect him/her. It is not because you do not agree with a person that you should not respect him/her. It is not because you do not agree with a person's creation that you should not resect him/her.

Why I am writing on a serious issue now, a sunday evening, when I should already be in bed? well, I have come accross this issue of respect during the past weeks and I have been thinking about this. This has been mainly happening on the web media, not so much in real life. but as in "real life" respect should be everywhere in our relation with others! If you do not agree with me, fine but do not call me stupid because i do not do things like you do!

Good night to all!

Eye candies

week-end almost over and I am dying to go to bed when mosquitos won't eat my feet. but before i unplug all the tralala, some new pictures!

First one shows details of a traditional carved door. The second one of a little garden behind an iron gate. It is the only garden of this kind I have seen in Stone Town so far.

Hmmm... Zanzibar... Stone town... so nice. I cannot get enough taking pictures there! I NEED to go back! Ben, do you read my blog?

197

197? that is the number of messages in my in-box at the minute... only 134 unread.I am getting better. Hopefully by the end of the day the in-box will be clean and I will not have any email to reply to...

As usual life is a bit crazy. But as it has become the normal state of things around there, I will just say that it is quite. Ben is again away for Sunday and will only be back tomorrow. I am all alone with the little monsters: Cuddle (my Labrador) and Muffin (our hedgehog).

The photo is crap and does not do it justice. I had a hard time taking it into picture. Yesterday night with the crappy white light (energy saving bulbs and cool but the light they give is not flattering) and the flash I could not get the colors right (even with the help of dear lightroom). This morning without flash but in natural light was a little bit better but not perfect. There is no sun today. It is cloudy and windy (maybe another earthquake coming?). So here is the best I could get. The background is more into the pinks and mauve. Hope we can get some sun so I make a better picture.

This piece is made on canvas board (13*18 cm = 5*7 in). The background was made using strips of paper (maths book, old catalog, music sheets) with gel medium. Then I used acrylic glaze over it. I placed the picture of the woman to which i had fixed a little rose, together with the clock background and some scrap paper to the bottom of the lady. I finished the clock, had the butterfly charm and a velvet leaf. Then i attached the bottle with the text and the transparent ornament. I added some lace at the bottom and added the brass corners. i also added some beige chalk on the background.

Better go back make some art!

Now the happy number is 186. YEEPEE!!

Inchies nest

I have already mentioned that I was participating in an inchies swap. Each month has a color assigned. I hope I can participate each month. The red inchies for January were sent and received. The purple ones are ready to be mailed and the green inchies for March are almost ready.

The other day I was thinking of a way to put all my inchies for this swap together. It is a 16 for 16 swap. Each time I make 4 more for me to keep. I have done myself a booklet with enough pages for the year and on the left side I will put 4 of my inchies (20 made -16 sent = 4!!) and on the right page opposite I will put the 16 inchies I will get. I will have a nice inchies book at the end of the year i hope. I chose to have black pages.

Good news - Bad news

Good News is this:

Purpleinchiesweb

Bad news is: No green inchies to show as I had problems with the background and all the images turned green, poor ladies, gentlemen and kids... all looking like coming from mars... going to try another technique for background so...

Laundry is in the washing machine... We are sunday and the house is not a mess!

2 ATCs

As promise, some art. I decided to make more ATCs. I love making them. Most of the time I can finish one in a relatively short time which is a great tihing for me as I do not have much time. It is relative satisfaction when you can start AND FINISH a piece in less than a month! yep, it is!

ATCs are also such a great way to practice new technics also... But i think i have already said that in a previous post.

For the purple inchies, some patience in required as i have not scanned them yet. Should be coming later today. I will also show the book I have made to put my inchies from the swap.

It is 8.45 and I have been awake for one hour and a half now. Aloready took a quick shower and cooked (and ate!) a yummy super breakfast! Muffin is slepping by my side make funny noises (She is dreaming). The workers on the neighbouring compound are working (bang, bang bang) and the sun is already shining! So everything is fine for a new day, a creative day, just for me... Ok I should also not forget the laundary...

Let's Go! and Be creative!

exhausted

I am exhausted... I finished the purple inclies... they are drying: the picture will be tomorrow moring. I did the background for the green inchies. It is not dy yet.The images and words are cut so I will apply those tomorrow morning. I did play a bit with Muffin and Cuddle. In case you wonder, the tortoise is still around. The dog is doing ok with her most of the time. Hope she likes the place.

I visited some new blogs... and I worked on my surprise... hee hee. Going to bed now.

Hugs!
