I am shamed. You told me you'd been to the US, but I did not realize you'd traveled it more extensively than I have, by a good 12 states.
It's a damned big country, and not easy to cover that kind of territory, but it still embarrasses me when foreigners know the country better than I do.
At work I occasionally play a game: I have my coworkers write down the names of all the US states. It's deceptively simple; everyone kind of hits the wall at 42 or 44. (I think New Englanders would do a little better because that's where we West-Coasters fall apart.) The only one to get all 50? A Canadian. Then he asked us to name Canadian provinces. I think the best we could do was two or three, and we frequently named cities instead of provinces…

Actually, I'm pretty sure I've been to more European countries than I have US states. It's considerably quicker to go between countries in Europe than it is to go between states in the US, just because of their sheer size.
I guess I'll have to try the map thing.
